I just recently bought a model 10323 for parts. The engine has a hole in it in fornt of the carb. The motor turns over seems to have good compression and makes no abnormal noises. The mower was ran without the primer bulb and the owner said it just made a little bang and stopped running.Did it throw a rod?what let go in the engine to make it blow a hole in it?I have not torn it down yet but would like to know if anyone else has had this problem

Photos! Please. I can't tell where the hole is...

If the engine can be turned over by hand (always disconnect the spark plug wire before doing that) and it feels smooth and has compression (both up and down -- since this is a two-cycle), then it hasn't thrown a rod.

But if there's a hole in the engine... that can't possibly be good.
