Bought a Yardman ZTR with B&S aztec engine in 2010. Good mower but it has a "slip-n-slide" oil drain attached to a street ell from the bottom of the engine. Started noticing oil on machine frame and engine mounting surface. I assumed the rinky-dink drain mechanism hadn't completely closed.
Close investigation revealed that the street ell wasn't tight in the motor. There isn't enough room to give the ell even a partial turn because of the minimal clearance to the motor mounting surface of the machine. Is there a reliable fix that avoids dismounting the motor and jacking it up to tighten the ell?

What I have done to fix this problem is: remove the oil drain from the motor. Go to your local hardware store and get a pipe nipple long enough to bring it out just past the frame. Also get a pipe cap for the nipple. Use just a small amount of Teflon tape on the part of the nipple that goes into the engine and put some on the other end for the cap. If I remember right it should be a 3/8 pipe thread, but take your old drain with you to make sure by matching up the thread size.
