I own a Craftsman Z-turn mower,24Hp,42"deck. model 247.25001.This mower has an electric PTO switch which engages the blades. When you go Into reverse the blades disengage and reingage when going forward again. My problem Is that when I try and reingage the blades sometimes they will not reingage.I have changed out the PTO switch and checked the wiring but have the same problem.I was thinking that the PTO electric clutch becomes to hot to operate and will not engage till It cools down.Hoping someone will have an Idea on what causes this problem. Thanks Tom
Over time of engaging and disengaging the drive disc will wear increasing the air gap between the plates. You may need to insert a .012 feeler gauge in the slot next to the bolt with the spring and adjust until you get light drag in all three slots, and see what happens.
If you have the type of clutch with the three nuts with springs above them, then there should be a slot next to each spring. You need to feel around in there and put a .012 feeler gauge between the drive plate and the friction plate and adjust each nut until you have the correct clearance on all three corners.
