Z 254F Deck Lift help

I have a Z 254F 967954001-01. It started mowing uneven. At first thought I just needed to adjust deck. Turns out the plastic nut that holds the bar down for the lift has broken. Left side when sitting on mower. I bought the nut, but cannot get it to fit and get the bar back into slot. Anyone help?
