Give us the model number of the engine so we know what you have. But the problem is sounding like then beginning of a blowing head gasket.

That is the EPA family number and doesn't mean anything to anybody other then them, and I am not even sure about that. the numbers I need will either be on the valve cover if OHV or on the blower housing if flat head. will say Model, type, code above the numbers.

If the head gasket is starting to blow between the cylinder wall and the push rod cavity it will cause smoking sometimes intermittent. Also can be caused by pooling of oil in the breather The breather problem is not as common as the head gasket, so would start there.

Got it apart, It is the head gasket. Between the cylinder wall and the push rod cavity. But I dropped one of my valve caps, And I guess it went where all those socks go when they disappear in the dryer. Got to pick one up. Guys do you know the torque on the head bolts? and the steel push rod on top, right? thanks Joe
