Yamaha YLM342 ignition coil

Hi all. Just signed up and hope to be spending more time on here in the future. Have been indulging a long standing wish to learn mower repair and took the chance during the lockdown to work on some non-running mowers picked up locally.

My favourite mower worked on so far, has been a Yamaha YLM342. A lady gave me 2 and the deal was I got one working for her and I kept the other. I've sorted her's but the one I've kept is missing the ignition coil. Now these mowers are built lovely but finding parts is a nightmare.

I know the original part has (unusually) 3 'fingers' (sorry don't know the proper word) instead of 2. So it should look like this. Not sure if the middle 'finger' is operational or just supporting the assembly.

The closest I can get to is a modern Yamaha part that has identical mounting hole centres but only has 2 'fingers'. So the question is, if the coil physically fits am I okay to use it? Just want to check before parting with my money.

Thanks!

Hi,
I have a YLM342. After many years of excellent service it has suddenly decided not to start on both key or pull. I have stripped it down and all seems well; fuel, carb, recoil, key switch etc. All I can think of now is, like yours, that the ignition coil is the problem. Did you ever resolve your search for a coil that works on the YLM342?
