Do you put up Christmas Lights or not bother? I just started putting mine up and decorated with some greenery, did it the other day in the snow, it was very pretty.

I used to. We had lights and inflatables, the whole nine yards. Now that I live alone, I just put up a small tree in the living room. Most of the time around here, it's so warm it doesn't even feel like Christmas.

Not as much as we used to! Sold the tractor we used to light up & I'm getting "old & tired"!:frown:

I make my own every green garland, wrap it with some white lights then festoon it over the doorway. We have a small pine planted next to the door which I also put white lights on. (Got to have at least a little bit of sparkle at Christmas!)

We used to do lights all over the place. Now it's just too difficult so we may just put some around a window. Also gone are the days, or nights, of leaving them on all the time. It just costs too much so now whatever we do put up, we turn off at bedtime.

We use timers!

I like to decorate for Xmas and that includes lights, lots of lights. I am slowly switching over to LED lights though, they are more cost effective.

Timers are an excellent idea but to be totally honest, we've never had timers on anything. The closest we've come to that is being gifted with a 'clap on' thing that never did work. I suppose we're behind the times a bit.

I just found out there is a local program where you can take the old style lights and trade 2 in for 1 new set of LED ones. It is only 1 per family, but 1 free set is better than none.

What's the difference in the old style and the new and for that matter, what is considered to be the old style? Are you talking the 'bulbs' versus tiny twinkle lights?

Yup! We took out the box from the storage, brought out the lights, put them up and plugged them into the outlet. Bingo! Merry Christmas! :) I don't*think we would ever graduate from these lights. They delight both old and young alike.

They are the old school glass bulbs versus the new LED plastic energy efficient ones. They do it every year, switch out a set per family. I think it is cool.

I've never heard about that before. It's a neat idea. We've given away all of our old lights by now, though; wish we'd heard about this before.

I try to be as energy efficient as I can be. My power bill is high enough as it is, I do not need to add to my Christmas expenses.
