Hello everyone,
I have a Craftsman riding mower lt2000. Model No. 917.273756 that's about 10 yrs old.

The woodruff key #61 (half-moon shape) for the disk brake keeps breaking. I put in new pads, spring and brake rod. The rod is adjusted to about an 1 3/4". About 10 minutes into mowing the brakes stop working and it will no longer stop.

Thanks for the help!

visually inspect intermediate shaft & disc brake for being bent, cracked, or distorted & let us know what you find.

Shearing the woodruff key on the brake shaft is very unusual. The only cause I can see is a key either loose in the shaft or the brake disc. Both should be snug.

MechanicMark: The problem is with the brake disc not the ground drive. It's with the Dana Trans axle item #25 which holds the disc brake item #62.

Rivets" It was pretty snug when I attached it. Had to use a hammer to get everything to come together.

Gonna try and loctite the next one.
