I have a Craftsman mower model 917.378641 with a B&S engine model YBSXS.1901VE. It starts fine cold but when it's warmed up and I stop it to empty the bag it won't start back up until it cools down. I thought it might be the carb but I took it apart and cleaned it and that didn't help. It really wasn't dirty at all.
first off we need the model, type, and code off the blower housing not the family number, that only means something to the EPA. could be an ignition module issue but will what for the engine info before speculating.
OK I found the plate where the number is stamped but it's badly rusted and I can barely make out any of the numbers. It appears to start with 128602 but the rest is mostly illegible. I've attached pics of the plate and the engine. I hope this is enough!

With all the debris on the outside I bet the fuel tank, and carb need a good cleaning.
Yea I already did that and it looked clean to begin with. It runs just fine after starting up cold as long as I keep it running but when I stop the engine and try to start it again after 10 seconds or so it won't start back up. I've had to switch from bagging to mulching because once I stop to empty the bag I can't get it going again but I can run it for over an hour to mulch and no problems, except that my lawn is growing so fast that it doesn't mulch the grass enough and I get clumps everywhere even when I go over it twice. Ugh.
Next time it won't start, check to see if you are still getting spark. If you have spark, then the next thing I would check would be the valve clearances, check when engine is cold with the valves. If no spark then replace the ignition module.
