My battery won't stay charged even though the alternator charges the battery while mowing. Anybody have a solution? It's a new battery. New battery every year, same problem. Where is the altenator and regulator? Are they seperate? Help, anybody.

International battery in our shop claims the battery is throw away recycle because it lasts only a year .
They only replace a bad one up to 6 months.
I tale my batteries in the house during the winter where it is above 60 degrees .
I get 3 years out of my batteries .
thanks, but my problem is not from year to year. It's from week to week. charge it up one week then mow, the amp meter shows charging. But, the following week the battery is dead. not a direct short. anybody have trouble with altenator or regulator draining the battery slowly?

The stator is under the engine flywheel and the regulator is probably mounted on the engine.
The key switch controls all the battery power to the machine and when in the off position it opens the charging circuit. The reason for opening the charging circuit is that when the engine is not running, power from the battery will backfeed into the charging system and kill the battery.
Key switches do wear out and cause electrical problems. There are many different configurations of keyswitches and getting the correct one is important.
