Will these Toro blades inter-change?

I have a 2007 22" Toro Personal Pace mower with 6.5 hp Tecumseh motor that uses a blade like this:

My Father has a 2009 22" Toro Personal Pace mower (primer-less, with blade clutch, & bag/mulch select) with 6.5 hp Briggs motor that uses a blade like this:

bladephoto.jpg

I am at work right now and will post the model numbers for both mowers later (I do not have both mowers but I did write his mower's model and serial down for reference of parts.)

I have not attempted to "swap blades" for $hits & giggles yet, but I always thought that my Father's mower cut better and finer than my mower.

Has anyone swapped blades without changing the blade adapter? I do not recall if the newer mower's blade has a concave shape to it like my older blade.

The 2009 model with 6.5 B&S is a Model 20333 and the 2007 model with 6.5 Tecumseh is a Model 20073.

Almost all Toro recyclers of that style use the same 22" blade. To answer your question, yes that blade will work on your mower. It's usually called a gator blade. HD sells it as the Atomic blade

The strange thing is, I just checked ereplacement parts, and it calls for the same blade between both models - the blade shown looks like the blade on my mower (the top one)

But the blades are definitely different. And the blade that came with his mower is the OEM blade, although I replaced it a few months ago with the same style that was on his mower.

I don't know if it is blade or what, but it seems to cut better. I could use a new blade anyway, so figure I would like to get the same one for testing purposes.

PS, I thought the "Atomic" blade was the top blade?

The blade you have is a 3in one blade. The atomic is oem mulch specific blade

Both blades were OEM blades, though. My 20073 came with this blade:

And the 20333 came with a blade like this:

I just do not recall if the "Atomic" blade that the 20333 came with is flat or not. The blade adapter on my 20073 MUST use a curved blade to fit properly.

I will check out the 20333 this weekend.

However, ereplacement parts calls for this blade for both mowers:

I think all the mtd made toros had the curved blade.

Well that is what I need to know, if the atomic blade is curved or flat. Because my 20073 mower requires a curved blade.

Most home depot sells them. Toro dealers usually have them to.

Can you please take a picture of the blade on your 20333?

Ok. I just googled Toro 20333 and found a video of a 20333 on YouTube. It has a Tecumseh engine and does not have the ready start engine switch, nor blade clutch. So I wonder if they are all the same?

This 20333 has the blade clutch, the ready start on/off switch, and 6.5 B&S engine.

As Exotion pointed out, the 20333 does have a curved plate. I checked Toro.com's Parts (similar to ereplacementparts.com) and it clearly shows that this mower has the aluminum blade support that is curved (how could I have forgot!)

The 20333 uses 2 studs with nuts to secure the blade, versus the 20073 which uses one bolt.

Either way, Toro.com's parts section calls for the same blade for both mowers! I guess it is possible that I was WRONG and that both mowers do infact use the same blade! I will take photos this weekend when I go to check out my Father's mower, to solve this dilemma once and for all.

Both mowers use the same "Atomic" blade. The blade has 3 holes to accommodate the single or two bolt blade retaining systems on different models.

Are there any other aftermarket blades that are better for mulching that have been used with favorable results? Has anyone used a different blade?

Sure. I bought a Gator blade from Oregon. I didn't notice any particular difference. I even put a stiffener w/ wings from one of my 22040 mowers on a recycler.

I guess my best bet is to stick with an OEM blade, then. Just ordered a new Atomic blade to start fresh for next season. Mine was pretty worn, sharpened a lot, and apparently has hit a lot of things. Still on the original blade from 2007. It looks quite a bit.....different!

Blades are relatively cheap so feel free to experiment. You may have different grass than I cut and your mower might respond better to a gator blade. Most people love their gator blades.

I suppose so. Looks like I will be sticking with the Atomic blade based on my order.

If I remember right the atomic looks a lot like a gator blade. I got my gator blade from Oregon online. Ebay sells them too Oregon 96 607 Gator Mulcher 3 N 1 Blade for Toro 22" Recycler 94 907 96 607 | eBay

The reason I was thinking that my blade was different was because of how worn out it is. Even though I sharpen it regularly, it has worn down in the 7 years of use. Yes, I am still on the original blade from 2007. It isn't square anymore. 7 years of sharpening it have caused the "blade" areas to be recessed a bit.

That was why I was thinking it was so much different than the new blade I put on my father's mower a few months ago when his original blade was substantially bent, causing the mower to vibrate and rattle.

New blade came in. Will start off fresh next season.
