Have a 2006 Troybult Pony. Had to replace the Transmission Pulley and Spline Hub also replaced this assy belt also. Before putting the belt on I rotated the pully and the wheels do turn' Put the belt on and started the mower. Put in gear and nothing. Last summer would have to play with the gear shift to get it to lock in and start moving. Wonder if I need to replace the main belt from the engine to the Trans assy pulley ?

I doubt a new belt will solve the problem unless the one on now is completely in shreds but still in one piece that will tighten and then they usually become aromatic. Even in that condition it will usually move the machine in first gear on a level surface.

On the two belt gear drive systems, the two belts have to sync or it won't work properly. this normally requires replacing both belts at the same time with either OEM or OEM equivalent belts, because standard off the shelf belts are not cut at the correct angle, or the correct width.

The other thing that could of occurred is the belts are not synced at this time. Start the mower, move the speed selector lever to a high gear, and then release the clutch, with the direction selector in neutral. Then try moving it back to a slow speed, and then try to go forward or backwards.

Absolutely, replace belts with OEM parts, also check idler pulleys for replacement.
