Hello I own an old Craftsman LT1000 42" tractor mower model number 917.271635 an recently broke the original deck belt. Since replacing it I've observed it shredding the new belt. Thus far i've raised hell at my local store an got another belt an discovered the mower attempting to shred this belt as well. Can someone help me to deduce whats going on here?

Thus far I've:
Made sure I've routed the replacement belts correctly every time.
Checked the pulley's connected to the blades finding no resistance to turn
Checked the other pulley's finding almost no problems with those either.

What the belt is doing?
The belt once engaged is getting so hot that it is smoking.

Most likely cause is the belt on the wrong side of a belt guide or brake arm. With the belt installed engage the deck( engine off) and check the belt to see where it is rubbing and that is were the problem is.

Thank you. Will do and report back shortly.

Could their be a problem with one of the pulley's if the belt guides aren't in the way?

Just checked the belt guides....All where cleared but just one *ONE STUPID LITTLE BELT GUIDE :ashamed:*.

Thank you for the help. I will be coming back to this forum when I have questions on other topics.
