I thought I was the only one to put a mower into a pond. In my case first time was due to front axle catching fire so that was intentional. Then second time was when the steering ball broke, no control at all. I was right at the pond edge when I went to turn. Luckily the pond end I went into was only a few feet deep. Note this was a rider and not a ZTR.

Guy I know retired and got a job cutting grass at a high end golf course. Worked for free just got to play golf there for free. Fred put a $75k mower in a pond and they didn't fire him.
