I am looking at a used Turf Tiger with 72" deck and Kubota diesel. I haven't seen it yet because the dealer has it out on loan. The dealer says he can't read the serial number to confirm what year it is and it doesn't have a hour meter. Is there anything I can look at to tell approx what year it is? I had assumed that all Turf Tigers would have come with hour meters. What year did they start using the Kubota diesel? If there isn't an hour meter could this be an indication of what year it is.

Go to the Scag website, on left side column click on manuals. Click on Scag Turf Tiger, scroll down to the Kubota diesel serial number groups. You will have to download each one and look for what stands out to identify the machine that you are checking out.
All electric start Scag ZTRs come with hourmeters, a STT/Kubota diesel/72" deck will be 2008 or newer.

Bear in mind that Scag runs a particular model/serial number range for a 2 year period. For example, I bought a Tiger Cub in August of 2008 which was produced in early 2007 as part of a specific serial number range that ran from 2007 thru 2009 before any changes to this model were made. When Scag makes changes, they start a new serial number range and sometimes a new model designation, the Tiger Cub evolved into a Tiger Cat.
