What does green gas mean?

People,

Opened up a can of gas (red plastic carrying can), a year old, daughters house, and its green. Poured it into anothetr clear container, and theres no water in it. I compared it to another similar can and that can was typical yellowish gas. Is the green gas maybe from someone having added oil fora 2 cycle engine?? Does any company brand have green gas as opposed to all others? Like Some beer companies- they insist on having a green botle when most others are brown........

I mean, old gas doesnt turn green,as far as I know. Ive seen old gas be slight turbid/cloudy, but still retain the yellowish color. Green has to be from the 2 cycle oil tint, Im guessing. Feedback appreciated.

It sounds to me that you are talking about gas that someone mixed with 2 cycle oil. I think your guess is right. I don't know of any company that colors their gas, but I don't know all. Maybe someone will come along and have a better idea and you can get more input. Good Luck

The second post makes me think this is mixed 2 stroke gas but I'm not sure... 2 stroke oil can be in many colours, I've had blue and purple before.

Are you sure it's not Diesel in a gas can?
On-road Diesel has a green tint.

Hmmm, good tip. I doubt its deisel. Maybe I can smell it again- I think deisel has that distinctive smell, right? Im thinking it was mixed, but maybe only way to tell is to add it to my weed wacker and see if that starts it- cant harm it for just running a few seconds, right??

Worst case- I can dump it in my MTD rider, and hey, whats wrong with some extra oil in gas mixture.........But if its deisel, mtd wont start, I believe- not enough refined petro, I think.

A better way than putting in a tank to tell if gasoline or diesel. Put a tablespoon in a metal lid, light it and you'll know for sure.

I would pass on trying it in my 2 cycle equipment not knowing the mix ratio if it is mixed gas. As long as its gas and not Diesel worst it will do in a 4 cycle gas engine is foul the spark plug a little.

Got a pile of brush to burn? That's a good job for it.....

I use to play airsoft and we used the term green gas as well. It was a can of compressed gas mixed with some oil to keep the o-rings from rotting from the compressed gas.

As for gasoline having a green tint, I have to agree with others; its mixed with oil. I do recall seeing some 2 cycle mix that was green and always thought it was rich mix. As Senior Citizen said, just get a bit of it and light it. Gas, even mixed with oil will light, diesel will not.
