weed eater one gears don't stay engaged

I have a weed eater 1 riding lawnmower Model number we261. When you shift gears into any of the forward gears, the gears stay engaged only momentarily, then start to grind as the mower tries to move forward. Everything is ok in reverse. Any ideas as to what's going on?

Thanks

I'm now having the same problem you are having, I replaced the friction wheel, but that did not clear the problem, it runs good in reverse, so I believe that the transaxle could be bad because the chains are not falling out of the sprockets.
