Hi There,
I purchased a Honda HRR216k5VKA mower from someone on Craigslist for $125 a few years ago. Engine runs perfectly but the rear drive is very weak. So far, I've replaced the drive cable thinking this was the problem but there is no improvement. I've adjusted the cable tension to the maximum, but it only gives me a minor amount of pull.
Is there an easy way to determine whether the problem is with the transmission or the drive pulley? A replacement transmission is about $100 while the pulley is about $7. I've heard / read that if the mower pulls backward without the wheels locking up, it suggests the transmission is still fine.
Any ideas?
I'm at a crossroads as to whether to repair or replace.
Thanks in advance,
Peter
