Does anyone know where I might be able to obtain parts for this one? Im considering restoring it but may be getting in over my head with a few parts sources. If they even exist. Anyone know any backgroud on this one?

Theres not much coming up on Google searches etc. Appears Whirlwind Lawn Mower company was in business in Milwaukee Wi. until 1948 when it was bought out by Toro. This must be a model produced prior to that. Finding the belts could well be a nightmare. Fortunatley the motor spins over freeley and most of the parts look like they are there. The tires are pnuematic and apparently have tubes in them. I havent been able to ascertain which model of Briggs and Stratton engine this is. Heres a pic of the tags.

They sure liked to do things the hard way -- instead of just designing the engine with a vertical shaft they added all those shafts and pulleys.
This is obvious -- but have you tried searching for info on the B&S engine with its model number?
Great mower thorswhisper! I have a later model Toro Whirlwind mower that I am going to restore one of these days, let us know what you find out and good luck!
Dead End on the B&S model number look up. Also Contacting Toro was a huge waste of time. Im surprised thees not more showing up online. Guess I just have to reach the right guy.
Looks like only a type number, 306572.:frown: I wonder if the young designers of the Chevrolet Corvair cooling and generator belt got their inspiration from this design? It's a neat old mower, for sure.

dude your in luck i got some parts people that never fale me, they are Oscar Wilson's
i can't tell you when they open, but they close at seven, so call the number i'm about to give you before then. 1-800-849-1297
I'm not so sure about that. But my addiction in vintage and antique engines is what brought me here. Someone gave me a Craftsman powered reel mower. Unfortunately, the mower was beyond restoration, but I saved the motor. I had a hard time trying to find the Tecumseh/Lauson model from the Craftsman numbers, but with the help of the ASECC, I was able to. Briggs & Stratton info is all over the web, but not so much for Tecumseh and the older Lauson. I hope the original poster has better luck with this Whirlwind.
I intended this comment kind of tongue in cheek. I do love trying to track down the history of all this old stuff, and parts can certainly be a big challenge, to say the least! It's kinda fun taking a derelict and bringing it back to life, even if it usually doesn't make too much economic sense.:licking:
I'm liking it as well. I'm having to make a piece of throttle linkage on a B&S 3hp that I am currently working on. It only dates back to 1965, but the part is NLA.
