MTD 173CC 1P70MO engine mower model # 11A-54MC006

Anyone have a part # for just the valve spring retainer or have an idea of what might work?

Both exhaust and intake retainers wore and pulled off the valve stem. Only way I can find the little retainers is to purchase a whole head assembly.
I hate to spend that much on a mower every few years just to keep it running so I am hoping someone will know what to do here. :confused2:

I would check those valve retainers again along with the valves. I think you will find that the valve stems are also worn where the retainer hooks on. If they are you will have to replace the valves also. If that is the case you will need to order valve kit number 951-10345. Before ordering you must verify that the retainers are included in the kit. A couple of things you should be aware of before ordering anything. You will have to lap the valves into the old seats. Before doing this I personally would recut the valve seats. I would also replace the gaskets, I never reuse them. This process may get expensive if you can't do the valve work yourself.

After Inspection of the valve stem I can not find any wear on it. I believe it's harder steel than the retainer and only damaged the retainer.
I looked all over trying to find anything that looks like it and I found that Honda makes one that looks exactly the same so I ordered it.
I will post back when I get the parts and verify that they indeed fit.

The reason I posted that, is in my years of experience anytime the retainer is worn, so is the valve stem. New retainer may hold for a while but will fail in a short period of time. Make sure that the area of the valve stem which catches the retainer is sharp and square, to hold the retainer properly.
