In the market for a new mower after my salvage mower finally died.

Is $250 a good deal for a refurbished 21" Honda Harmony?

What's the exact model number? If it uses the xenoy deck, I'd be wary of the mower and check out the area near the carb. Plenty of pics on the internet where the deck can crack there. When Honda redesigned the Harmony plastic into the HRX, they've made them much more durable. Honestly, you're paying $250 for 10+ year old machine with a potentially flaky 2 speed transmission, I'd save my pennies and try to get a HRR for $399 from home depot which has self propel with improved smartdrive which looks to be pretty reliable and you get a 3 year warranty to boot.

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking once I found out it is a plastic deck (or nexite). He didn't know the age of the machine because he got it on trade and refurbished it. Looks like these models are about 12-15 years old from what I'm gathering online?

I'd say that the price is a bit steep (they range from $100 to that price in my area), but I will add that I strongly prefer the older-series plastic-decked Hondas over the newer ones for many reasons, primarily due to the much larger size and length of the new one (bloat, just as has happened with the Civic, also made by Honda). And the housing crack under the carb in the older models is not a big deal and usually doesn't spread.

Go to a store or dealer and try pushing down on the handle to lift the front of the mower off its wheels on a new model, and then try the same with an older one. See which you prefer. The very lightest older model is the non-self-propelled with the GCV160 engine without the blade brake clutch (BBC).
