I have a choice between a used 2012 Honda HRX2173HZA for $575 vs new HRX2174HYA for $699. I am looking at a Honda Dealer. The used HZA has electric start which is the only difference. I really dont have to have electric start but it is nice. I talked to the original owner who traded it in on a commercial Honda so he could get side discharge which I dont need. He used it very little which I can tell by the blade and appearance. He mowed high grass and mulching didnt work well for him . I actually tried it out and mowed my own normal height grass and it works good. Dealer will give a 4 year warranty by them. The only reason why I would consider the used one is that I understand from one of your forums that the 2012 with 3 in model number has a metal pairing to the timing gear and the new HRX mowers with 4 in model number use plastic. The new one would have a 6 year factory warranty if I buy before the end of May. Do I spend $125 for brand new or go with the older to get the metal timing part and electric start. I can make my decision over this weekend.

Howdy, I just purchased a 4hya. It's like a Cadillac. 6 yrs is a long timefor a warranty. Other members here have used theirs more with their landscaping businesses than we would ever use them with no problems. Mine starts on about a half of a pull every time. An easy pull at that. Every time. Either way you WIN.

Obviously metal will out last plastic. I say go with the cheaper older mower
