I upgraded the starter circuit and engine ground wiring on my Toro. I added 4 gauge automotive wire to what was there. Reasoning is, I run straight 30 and I think my 3 year old battery is getting weak so I am thinking the decreased resistance will achieve easier starts. I also had most of the wiring.
I think you got about all you goin to get out of that battery. Upgrade will not hurt though

Six gauge is usually heavy enough gauge wire. The time I look upgrading the battery/starter cables is usually on the MTD line where they use 8 gauge copper clad aluminum. wires. I don't even stock 8 gauge wire just the 6 gauge.
Now a 3 year old battery has usually done reach the end of its useful life.

I think the existing wire looked about 8 ga. I agree that the battery is probably on its way out. If I can get through this next season, I will be shocked no pun intended... For replacement I may go with a 300 CCA East Penn Deka from Lowes.
