Can anyone advise me with an issue I have with a 3.5 HP Tec that has a needle that won't seat? The motor sat for ? I have cleaned the carb, replaced needle (aluminum) and seat. I am ready to give up!

Piece of dirt on the new seat, float height not set correctly. Incorrectly installed seat. I have seen the rubber seat turn sideways when gas hit it. damaged or leaking float.

Hi, Thanks for the info. Due to my inability to give up I walked away from project to? The next morning I found that the float appears to have an area of ?? corrosion. There seems to be a bit of liquid (old gas?) inside. I will replace and check items you mentioned.
Thanks.

My next venture is an old Sachs/Dolmar that prior to something falling on it and causing the throttle linkage to not function, ran well.

Gas in the float will cause problems. I have even seen them the copper ones get crushed from having water in the bowl. I work on Dolmar to.

Welcome to the Forum!..Timmie.. Yep a hole/ gas in the float will cause the carb to overload, and not seat properly.

OK, Replaced float but I don't know the height specs? This forum is gonna be a life saver. As of now I sprayed with carb cleaner and blew it dry. I will set float and put together tomorrow!

The float should be parallell to the base of the carb (where the bowl meets the carb. You just bend the tang on the float with the carb inverted. The weight of the float is sufficient for checking.
It's been years since I've replaced a float needle and seat. I remember it was either on a B&S or Tec, that little rubber seat has ridges on one side. "Those" ridges go down (in first) I used to use an allen wrench to push them in. A no no I used to do when removing those seats was to put my air blow gun into the fuel inlet and blow the seat out at my fellow mechanic. That was in my youth.

Float height is wet with a 11/64 drill bit between the float and the carb body. the float will have a downward angle with the carb upside down when properly set. something else to watch is the little tail on the float pin wire must go toward the air cleaner, otherwise will hang up and the float won't move properly.

Hi Gang, I'm back. Had to help inlaws move stuff off Grindstone island to their home in Conn.
OK I replaced the float (I received a plastic one) set to advised specs. It now only runs on wide open throttle but it "HUNTS" and primer bulb is very weak! I am ready to give back to owner as is and take the loss. Its taken toooo much time on my bench. The carb has no low or high speed screws.:frown:
