I hit the big "SIX-OH" at midnight today. What are the odds of me being around long enough to collect my first Social Security check and be REAL geezer, with a permanent monthly stipend granted by Uncle Sam?

And how many of you guys expect to actually collect what you paid into Social Security? If I get back the 45 grand I contributed during my working career, I consider that fair. Getting more, a real bonus...

I'm not even 40 yet. I'd think the odds of me hitting it big on scratch-off lottery tickets are better than getting a DIME back that I paid in.

May I suggest you start investing the $$$ you spend on tickets toward an account someplace?

Reminds me, about 7 or 8 years ago there was an article in the newpaper that said they did a survey of working people, and if I recall right a majority of those surveyed said they didn't want to start an IRA or invest in stocks or bonds, or whatever other investments they could make for retirement, but instead they thought buying lottery tickets or making risky bets on sports, gambling, etc. was how they would finance retirement.

Well, I am living proof that there is a third way to finance your golden years....marry a smart, rich, hard working woman....:thumbsup:
