I have a Snapper 21" mower with a Tecumseh TVS840 2 cycle engine. The engine starts on the first pull and runs well, but when the mower is tipped at an angle (especially spark plug down), it starts running rich (smokes and starts stuttering). I've taken apart the carb, cleaned it, and installed a new needle and seat. The problem still persists. Would a high float level cause this? I'm thinking of replacing the entire carb, but I'm not sure of the Tecumseh part number. My Lawn-Boys run well regardless of operating angle.
Thanks Engineman. Since the Tecumseh series VI carb has no mixture adjustment needles, this was my only option. I did lower the float level. Seems better, but will have to try it on my lawn to say for sure.
