My Troybilt 31AH55R5711 Storm 3090 Electric Chute Directional Control is giving me some difficulty (serial number 11255B40226). This electric chute control is the 4-way toggle switch design (left/right, up/down). The chute will swing to the left and also will tilt up. The chute will not rotate to the right or downwards (although once in a while it will). Any advise on how to troubleshoot and resolve? Thanks much!

Do you have a multi meter? Need to check the switch first. If the switch is operating properly, need to clean all connections.

Switch checked out okay (used continuity meter with contacts as I clicked the toggle in 4 positions), cleaned all molex connections with CRC contact cleaner. Now the chute DOES move left and right, however not regularly up/down. It goes down every time, however, will only go up when it feels like it.

You are using the same cleaner I use, but I’d like you to go one step farther. Spray the switch with the cleaner, trying to get cleaner into the switch, then work the switch vigorously to clean the internal contacts. Repeat a couple times and then install in the system and test. If this does the trick, remove all connections, clean each again and coat each with dielectric grease when assembling. If the switch doesn’t work properly after cleaning, I wouls say, time to replace the switch.

Mr. Rivets, you are a champion! If I could buy you a beer, bourbon, or glass of wine, or ice cream cone... I would. All works fine now! The CRC electronic cleaner was sprayed significantly into the switch. Then I toggled the switch in all directions and went round and circles both ways for 5 minutes. After successfully testing the chute control, I went ahead and used Permatex dielectric grease on all molex electric connectors. Then I went ahead and adjusted the gear/transmission tension to get my R1 working again, changed the oil, plug ... all good for next winter! Thanks so much!!

I probably just got lucky. I’d take you up on your offer, but would probably break your bank, as I only drink high end juniper liquid straight up on days which end in Y. At my age you need to know how to be careful. Good Luck next winter.

So here is a bottle of Nolet’s Reserve for you! Cheers!

Thank you, but that one’s a little to high end.
