I have a Troy Bilt riding mower. For a few weeks it was hard to start. I had to turn it over quite a few times before it would start.
As I was mowing, it died. It won't start. I've cleaned the carb and replaced the fuel filter. Replaced the spark plug. Still won't start.
Too many models to know what you are working on. How about we start with the model number of your mower, as well as the model information for the engine.
need to determine if it is a problem with the internal engine , safety switches, fuel related, ignition.
check to see if there is spark by using a spark tester. check the compression of the engine. yes it can be checked even though it has a compression release system. compression should be 50-60 psi maybe more. if these are good, then it is a fuel issue.
when you cleaned the carburetor, did you remove welch plugs? did you chase the passageways with a soft wire? if not, there is probably still an issue inside it.
Got it running. Evidently I didn't clean the carb good enough. Took it apart and took the fuel shut-off solenoid off and clean them real good. Put it all back together. It started right up. Thanks for the feed back.
