Troy-Bilt WC33 engine question

My TB WC33 engine has started to tick a bit. Not sure if it’s an early sign of engine go boom boom. Engine oil and spark plug was replaced before every season and carb was cleaned this past spring. I also noticed it starting to bog down in taller grass which it never did before.

This is the older WC33 with the red mulching deck and the 8.5hp Briggs I/C engine.

If the engine is bad would a repower be worth it since I bought it for $230 5 years ago and new ones that size go for $1,500+

Not sure what a WC 33 engine is but a Tick is not anything to stress over , A knock however is a real concern

WC33 is the Wide Cut 33” model

A ticking sound would suggest something loose being effected by the fan,
