Hello, I have a 24hp kohler engine that came out of a toro mower. This engine is now in my old GEHL skid loader. I am unable to keep a charge on the battery. The machine will run for about 10 minutes and then I have to manually charge the battery and put it back in. I had a new stator put in and still not holding a charge. What could this be? Does anyone have some solid ideas?

It could be anything from a faulty battery, to a bad voltage regulator to regulator not grounded, to the charge wire not connected to the battery. With the engine running what is the voltage at the battery. Should be around 13.5 volts or so. Could also be a case that the charging system on the mower engine isn't putting out enough amperage to keep up with demand for power. Meaning not big enough charging system.

Could even be a defective component in the electrical system on the skid loader. Without knowing the setup of the skid loaders electrical system but does sounds like is pulling a lot of current.
