I have a Husqvarna mower with a Briggs and Stratton engine, model 90000, 550 series. It is 4 years old. It used to start first crank. This year it will only start if I spray a small amount of starting fluid. The only thing I know to do is change the spark plug, and clean the air filter. The air filter is clean at the moment. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a lean starting condition. Please post all model and serial numbers of the engine so we know exactly which system and carb you have. That way we will know how to tell you to proceed.

Once started, will it stay running?

Yes, once it starts it runs great. When I finished cutting the yard I turned it off, and checked to see if it would start, and it would not.

I found the problem. A spring had come undone on one side for the choke.

I know how helpful people are on forums. I wouldn't want someone to link to websites or post pics or anything trying to help solve something already solved.
It is so great that we have forums like this to help each other. When I was a kid you had to ask someone you knew, and if most of the people you knew were goofballs, you were in trouble. LOL.
