So, what does everyone prefer for their string trimming needs: Gas, electric, or battery? I've also seen some with optional blade attachments, but I'm afraid I may cut off my foot at the ankle.

Thoughts?

I use a Toro 12" electric myself... for a typical little lawn in the suburbs, it suits my needs perfectly. If I were dealing with a larger chunk of land, I'd likely go gas, since I don't have the patience to wait for a battery to charge. Also, my electric has lasted for 10 years so far without a problem, only ever had to replace the string and the blade that cuts the string.

I changed from an older electric to a gas one about 10-12 years ago. I only have a city lot but it has a fair amount of trimming to be done.

I really like the gas one better. I can fire up the gas trimmer and be finished trimming in less time than I would spend dragging the electrical cord around for an electric.

I don't know how the newer rechargeable battery trimmers would be, but the older ones sucked! They had very little power and the batteries ran down too fast. The newer ones may be OK since most rechargeable tools have improved a lot in he past few years.
