Toro trimmer model 51972
Last time I used it, I saw that the priming bulb had a crack in it, and was leaking gas. I got it primed and running, but it quit after 15 minutes. Looking in the tank, I saw that the fuel line had broken at the place where the line enters the fuel tank.
Gasket where lines enter tank was cracked too.
Went ahead and ordered priming bulb assembly, fuel lines and new tank.
Replaced all fuel lines (inlet and outlet, and line between priming bulb and carb inlet).
After this, couldn't get it to start. Starter cable pulls correctly and engine turns over, but won't run, doesn't even sputter.
Priming bulb works correctly -- I see fuel coming into bulb, through carb inlet, and back into tank through (what I am assuming is the) carb outlet.
Replaced spark plug, gapped to .035, no change.
Followed procedure to clear out flooded engine, emptied fuel, inverted trimmer with plug out, choke open, pulled starter cord 20 times, nothing comes out.
Verified the power switch.
Plug is dry when removing.
Tested for spark by grounding plug to body and pulling started, and I have a nice, blue spark.
Tested by putting a small amount of fuel directly into chamber, replacing plug and cranking. Starts and runs normally for a couple of seconds until fuel exhausted.
Disassembled carb and cleaned all surfaces, orifices and gaskets. Gaskets seem in good shape and pliable. The thin (teflon?) piece with the valves on it looks good. I can carefully spray carb cleaner in the various inlets and outlets and see it flowing out the various holes in the body of the carb (i.e., none of them seem obviously clogged.)
Actuated, removed, visually inspected, cleaned and replaced the needle valve, spring, etc. It appears to work correctly. I can look through the valve seat with the needle out and see through it clearly.
Actually tore the carb down twice, to double-check myself.
The throttle is part of the carb assembly, and it's in good shape, and clear of debris.
I am thinking fuel isn't passing through through the carb into the chamber, but I am not sure how to eliminate the carb as the problem, and I don't know what else it would be if the engine runs when fuel is manually put in the chamber, but isn't getting into the chamber otherwise.
Thanks for any pointers,
-Jonathan
