Wife mows the grass, loves to ride the mower, trims the edges with two battery powered trimmers and it takes her forever to trim so I thought I would buy her a gas trimmer which she may or may not like.
After checking a number of trimmers and trimmer forums I have narrowed down to the three above. I know the only difference between the 225 and the 225I is the starter. Is the starter that much easier to pull to be worth the extra money? The T235 is very similar to the 225 except for the longer shaft which is solid and not a cable. The motor does not need non ethanol gas which is not a problem for me as I use non ethanol in all my power equipment and my 1998 car which is readily available in this area. Is there any good reason to buy one over the other? The price of the 225 is $200 the 225I is $256 and the shimmy is $250, not that much of a difference in price unless of course there is very little difference in the quality of the machines and features that I don't know about. I know you have to grease the cable in the Echo and grease the gearbox at the end of the trimmer of the Shimmy or so I have been told.
The Shimmy comes with 7 day return policy and a roll of trimmer string but that not the reason I would consider it.

I'm pretty happy with the 225 I recently got. I will say it is very easy to start. I don't think the extra money for the 225i is a great deal based on it being easier to start. The 225 starts on 1 or 2 pulls and it's not hard at all to pull. Unless there's extra reasons of why she would need it to be as easy as possible I think you're fine with the 225 and wouldn't be dissappointed. Of course you could find a place that would let you start both and then you'd know. Good luck!

If your talking about The Echo vs the Shindiawa there both owned by the same company so there basically the same machine, so you can pretty much take your pick. My question that I would like to ask is are you mowing as a business or just a homeowner because it would have a bearing on the answer that someone would give you.

We are homeowners and my wife will use the trimmer approx. 60 hours during the season from April to October.
