Hello.New member here.I am going to purchase my first zero turn mower soon and would welcome any recommendations/advice on the toro mowers.I have only a 1/2 acre lot,but would consider a little overkill in size if more comfort is involved as I have knee and hip issues.also,I would like a tutorial of 2 blade vs 3 blades. Thanks

Go to this website a see if any of the 42" models fit your needs. All are good units and will hold up well.

Toro | TimeCutter SS - Zero Turn Lawn Mowers

Basically the number of blades the deck is based on the deck size. I personally have found that the lower number of blades the better the cut. Also, the larger the blade length, the harder it is to side discharge.

I Personally would buy the Titan it's a lot more mower than the Time-cutter SS

It's a lot more expensive too. What are the major differences, and why would a homeowner with a 1/2 acre lot need it ?

If it has a Fab deck that would be why I would choose it over the others they hold up way better.

True the Titan is a little more expensive but you are getting a 10 gauge Fab deck, a 5 gallon gas tank not a 3, Comfort is something he said he would like to have and the rear 20x10 tires along with the adjustable seat spring suspension is something the OP could benefit from and the titan also runs the Hydro gear 2800 transmission which is twice that of the EZT in the SS and the titan also runs at 18000 bts which would give him a better cut and if he likes the looks he also has the ROPS. The OP said he only has 1/2 acre lot, but would consider a little overkill in size if more comfort is involved as he has knee and hip issues. The Titan IMO fits the bill for what he is try to find in a Toro mower. If he wants more comfort I would suggest he look at a Full Suspension Ferris but it to runs more money than either of the Toros.

mikey,
I would go as far as to recommend stepping up still one more model in the Toro line based upon your comment about knee & hip problems. Even though you would'nt be mowing for extended time with a half acre, the Titan MX4880 adds a Full 3D Isolation suspension seat which would be noticeably more comfortable than the spring suspension on the ZX series. Again, it will be a little more expensive but you're the one that is going to be mowing with it for many years to come. I "almost" went with the Titan MX(or the Z-Master 200 series) Toro myself last fall before purchasing my Gravely. Believe me, a full suspension seat is something worth getting up front. Below is a link to the MX4880 in case you want to consider it(also, the MX upgrades the HydroGear ZT-2800 to the ZT-3100 trannies for even more commercial quality durability as well as a 400Hour Warranty versus the ZX's 240Hour Warranty).

I would agree with Ric and go with the ZX series. I only suggested the TimeCutter due to the size of the lawn. The MX series is way to much over kill and not worth the expense.

Mikey,
When I looked at the 2012 Titans, the 54" MX was $900 more than the same size ZX model. The 48" is probably less difference than that. To me the "Commercial" ZT-3100 trannies, the suspension seat and the additional 160hours on the Warranty added up to more than the $900 difference. Of course, it's your money but I would recommend you drive each over some rough terrain and see if the spring suspension on the ZX is comfortable considering your hip problems.

Hey didicetn, we were talking about seat comfort, read the following either were screwed up or Toro is cause they both appear to be the same seat  There using the same write up :confused2: the only difference I can see is the 4820 has a retractable seat belt that comes standard

Contoured 18" (45.7 cm) Extra Tall w/ Slide (ZX 4820)

The premium seating system on the TITAN is truly a leader in comfort. The extra thick seat foam is contoured to envelope the operator in comfort and help hold you in place when traversing rough terrain. The seat is further cushioned by a unique adjustable seat spring suspension allowing you to have anywhere from 2 to 5 springs underneath the seat to give you customized support. A four-inch (10.2 cm) seat slide is adjustable while seated to help give you just the right fit. Adjustable armrests and retractable seat belt come standard.

Premium Toro Seat (MX 4880)

Ric,
The 2012 Toro Titan brochure describes them like this in the Specifications Chart:
ZX4280
Seat:Contoured 18" Extra-Tall
Seat Suspension:Adjustable Springs

MX4880
Seat:Toro Custom, Bolstered
Seat Suspension:Full 3-D Isolation

In the mower descriptions, the ZX says:Contoured 18" Extra-Tall Seat-Extra tall seats contours to the operator for added comfort.

The MX says:Maximum Comfort-A rugged mower doesn't have to mean a rugged ride. Titan MX mowers feature a thickly padded Toro custom seat with 3-D isolation mounts to absorb vibration.

They are clearly not the same seats in the brochure.

P.S.
Just noticed, when scrutinizing the Spec listings that the foldable ROPS on the ZX is 73" up and 46" down, while the MX is 74" up and 47" down.....so you get an extra inch on the ROPS.....may be worth $10 at least:0)
P.S.S.
If I hadn't decided to get a Commercial ZTR, I was SERIOUSLY considering the Titan MX. For a top-end residential, it's hard to beat. And I "almost" made an offer on the Toro Z-Master 2000 52", but the deck was both 10gauge and 7gauge. You had to step up to the Z-Master 3000(or Grandstand) to get the full 7gauge deck. The Toro commercials are fine-looking machines though and worthy of looking at if you are wanting a serious ZTR(that Turbo Force deck seems to be very well built).

If you go to the features section of each mower it is what I posted, it's the same for each mower. That's what I'm questioning is why when in the overview it's different? :confused2: I guess toro is trying to save money with there advertising.

Ric,

Yeah, I haven't gone to their website, but it sounds like their webmaster has some work to do:0)
I still have the 2012 Titan & Commercial product brochures and that's what I looked at.
