toro riding lawnmower

i have a toro wheel horse 15-38 hxl wheel horse thing wont start just got it a brand new battery and when i turn the key i get absulutley nothing no sign of life whats so ever, but i tried jumping it by putting cables to the starter and it turns on and stays on works great, but when i turn it off and try to restart it with the key and ignitiion switch i get nothing again. any ideas of what to look at first and how to test it. the mower turned on fine just a couple of weeks ago took it to the shop for maitenance got it back yesterday and now this...... any suggestions

Possible solenoid problem or electrical problem.
If you are by passing straight to the starter you are missing the elec wiring so could be in there.

how can i check to see if my ignition switch is bad i have a new battery but when i turn the key i get nothing. but if i place a screwdriver on the solenoid switch and have the key to the on position it starts right up any suggestions

Have you checked all the safety switches? Sitting on the seat, brake all the way down, tranie in neutral, PTO off. If the answer is yes, I would test the solenoid by putting 12V to the small terminal, with the key on, and see if it starts. If NO, bad solenoid, if YES, we now have to check each safety switch.
