TORO rear wheel drive

I have a TORO 6.5 rear wheel drive that needed cleaning, so I took off the rear wheels to clean out all the thatch packed there, replaced the wheels and now it acts like the gears are stripped. What did I screw up please ?

Probably installed the drive gears backwards. This manual should help you out.
