any one out there know much about these commercial toro mowers? Talked to Toro, and of course they want me to bring it in, I like to work on my own stuff. It has a high speed switch, which works on occasion if I reset all faults, works until I do anything to take it out of high speed then won't go back in. is there a way to read codes on the 580, or what would cause this problem to test inputs. Has a black box under deck controls but I don't see any of the lights the manual talks about. must be an older version? I believe it is a 1999-2001 model 580d two wheel drive 85 hp diesel. thanks for any help

I just bought a 1995 used Toro 580D. Haven't tried High Speed yet, afraid to. Now it needs a water pump and Toro wants $759. As to your question you should find this helpful. Lets stay in touch so we can share our pain together and help each other out

Thanks you guys, the service manual is great, I have a hard copy that came with my unit. but sometimes easier to flip through the computer. I am finding out that I have to get a service tool 85-4750 ACE anyone know where I might get a good used one, or if any aftermarket ones, I haven't talked to toro yet, but I can imagine what price they want. also need to rebuild my main deck motor valves, seals (orings) are toast, they are either very worn or are square o rings, tried regular o rings they just get cut when reinstalling. any sizing or help is greatly appreciated
The tool is helpful but not necessary at all. It just lights up with inputs and outputs. Most switches on these machines are normally open or normally closed circuits. Their are only a few inputs for high range and those are the switches that let the machine know its decks are in the up position. Their is one on either side decks under a cover with 2 13mm bolts when the decks are in the upright position. Their are 2 on the front deck. Hope this helps.
