The motor on my Toro lawnmower will not start, it seemed to me that the starter was dragging, changed the battery out to a known fully charged one (checked the battery with my battery tester and it showed the battery is good) The motor tries to turn, but moved very slowly or not at all. Bought and installed a new starter, still having the same problem. I bypassed the starter solenoid switch, still same problem. when I removed the spark plug, the motor turned fast enough to crank. I have checked both the intake and exhaust valves and both open and close normally. I loosened the drive belts to the transaxles, taking that load off the engine, still the same problem persists. I checked the flywheel key thinking it could be partially sheared, it was not. I trickled the battery all last night, put a meter on it, showed 13.25VDC.
Tried cranking it again, still same thing, you can rotate the engine by hand off the compression, the engine will the try to crank over, but most of the time it will not drive through the compression stroke. I am over 70 years old, and to my knowledge, never experienced this problem. Any ideas?:
