I recently picked up a two stroke Toro 26682, and am having some problems with it. It starts fine, and runs evenly. If I run into even slightly tall grass, it bogs down. If I disconnect the blade quickly, it doesn't die, but chugs along barely running. It acts as if it's running very rich, and smokes heavily. Any change to the throttle setting at this point and it dies, and is very hard to restart. If I tip it up (press handle down) it eventually speeds back up, I assume this is because the carb doesn't refill from the tank, and leans it out enough. If I don't tip it, it does eventually clear up, but this takes much longer. Longer on the order of a few minutes. It's missing the air filter cover, and the filter foam is held on with wire. I assume it hasn't been getting the best filtered air, and would like to find that part and a new filter. I suspect compression, but haven't had a chance to check yet. Any thoughts?
Also, the pull cord doesn't retract all the way. I took the assembly apart, and tightened the spring some. While doing this I noticed that there is only one pawl for the mechanism, but two could be fitted. Should there be a second one? How should the spring be tensioned, I'd like to make sure this is correct.
