Toro 20333 Line stuck on restart

Hello all. New to the forum! I recently bought a Toro recycler second hand. It was in decent running condition, nothing out of the ordinary when I bought it. I have used it for about 2 months now with no problems. Sunday I go to mow and after my 2nd bag empty I go to start and the line has snagged. I can only pull about 5 inches before it's done. Ok, so I take it into the garage and tear it down (after letting it cool a bit, ouch!) I take off the line pully part and I can pull it completely. No line is wrapped weird or off the spool. So I turn to the engine. I can spin the engine just fine and I can feel the compression. Being a little bit stumped of why it didn't start before I tore it down I decided to put it back together. First pull, no snag and it started! Woohoo, I'm a master lawn mower repairer guy. Well I shut down with half of the backyard left to empty the bag and same thing happens. Line snagged, no start. Do the same thing. Tear it down, everything is spinning freely when it's apart. Put it back together and it starts. Finished the yard and the same problem exists. This has led me to here! I did a brief forum search with nothing coming up with my specific problem. I'm fairly new to mowers being a new homeowner. Haven't used one since I lived with my folks during highschool. Any thoughts on where to go from here?

Float in the carb might be stuck open allowing to much fuel into the chamber flooding the engine. When you tear down you allow the gas to get out.

That's my guess someone else could chip in

... if I am not mistaken, I think the OP is talking about the starter cord jamming and not allowing him to start it.

It could be heat related. Something expanding enough to bind and releases when its cooled off. But I have no idea what. Might be something bent just enough to contact when hot?

I think you're on the right track. The last time i snagged when I finished mowing I didn't do anything to it. Just put it back in the garage. Went to mess with it two days later and the line was no longer snagged. Started on 2nd pull. So I'm thinking heat related as well... Hmmm don't know where to go from here.

I had the same problem with my Toro tear down and everything. Although, mine always managed to start with the 5 inch pull and it was a 20016 Tecumseh Engine it was kinda old but always started on the second 5 inch pull although that was a completely different engine from what you are dealing with. Anyway I bought the mower you have now for a steal and I have never had a problem with it hasn't seen very much use yet. I hope you figure this out it probably something simple by the way a tip for your mower try not to put any fuel in it that contains ethanol it gums up the Carb and is a real pain to clean out believe me.

Probably going to need to tear the thing down while hot. I have suspicions about the spring. :/ could the starter be getting overtightened down

Have you checked the oil level? What weight of oil are you using?

Oil level is good. Oil is whatever it came with in it when I bought it. New for this season.

With no intent of sarcasm, and do what exactly? Anything specific I should be looking for? Ill take some pictures next time I tinker with it.

pull the starter off while it is hot check the flywheel make sure its spins look in the starter need to find out where its snagging
