Timecutter SS5000 starting issue

Hi, I'm new here, and I just bought a used Toro a week ago. It worked great at first. Today, not so much. It worked a for a while, but then it won't behave after a break - it won't start correctly. Here's what I know:
1) Starting it with the choke open on full throttle results in the engine starting momentarily, then cutting out. This is the same if I leave the choke open or close it.
2) My first thought was air filter - I replaced that and it does the same.
3) In order to get it into my garage, I found if I left the choke on and started it on lowest throttle, it would run (though not dependably), so I was able to limp it back from the field. If I close the choke or increase the throttle, though, the engine stalls out.
Ideas?
Happy Fourth of July!

Sounds like a good carb cleaning may be in order...
What engine powers this unit?

V-twin 24.5hp. I tried to take a picture of it, but apparently my phone pictures are too large on this forum.

Cleaned the carburetor pretty well. Still the same. Other ideas? I'm going to try to dismantle the carburetor more to get every last bit, but I'm losing hope that that's the solution.

Briggs 24 Vtwin?

Probably. I don't see Briggs' name on it, just Toro's brand. 24.5hp, 708cc.

Tried the fuel filter on the advice of a friend. No dice.(n)
