I "almost" bought a 2012 Bad Boy Outlaw 5400 with the 30hp Briggs Commercial last fall. Dealer's best price was $250 more than the Gravely, the ROPS was $300 extra for the Bad Boy and the Gravely had the Kawasaki FX Commercial engine(which I preferred). I must admit the Bad Boy's 5gauge deck was impressive but I'm very happy with the Gravely and have never looked back. Of all the threads I've read where Bad Boy owners posted when I was researching, they either loved them or they hated them(most of those unhappy were not pleased with the cut finish the ZTR had).

I don't care about cut just as long as it is a quality machine and will last.

Well, if the Bad Boy dealer had accepted my counter-offer and thrown in the ROPS(I thought it was kind of deceiving that the catalog and website showed the Outlaw with a foldable ROPS and then I find out it's extra) I would have bought a Bad Boy without reservation(just like you, I take "bad reviews" with a grain of salt). But that didn't happen so I can't offer any "owner experience" advice.....sorry:0(
