Thinking about Husq MZ5424S..... or Garden Tractor

Looking to replace my dead GT with a ZTR. I have 5 acres. One is lawn, two are lightly wooded and I mow it regularly (weeds, leaves, vines, poison oak, etc), two are heavily overgrown and a cut a few times a year. I am in the process of slowly clearing this.

I need to be able to pull a wagon and downed trees with the mower so I want at least a Hydro 3100 transmission. I have always had a GT in the past and I am also looking at a Husq GT or the JDX500, but I am leaning heavily towards a ZTR. I would like to keep the cost around $4000.00 if possible.

I live just outside of Gainesville, Florida. I have a JD, Kubota/Husqvarna ad Gravely dealers near me. The nearest Hustler dealer is 20 miles further from me. The MZ5424S seems to be a good price towards my needs list, but I welcome other options as long as it is supported in my area.

Update, I went to the Orange and Green stores today and they both didn't recommend towing a 5x10 trailer or pulling trees with the ZTR's. Deere pointed me towards the X500 and Husq towards the GT52Xi (fabricated deck and differential lock). The Husky GT was only $3200. The take was that pulling stuff and then the low trees that I have would negate much of the speed of the ZTR (I frequently move branches while driving under trees)

I think both guys I was talking to were "tractor guys" as opposed to "mower guys". Feature wise, the Husky seems about midway between the X300 and the X500, with the addition of the diff lock.

Thanks for your opinions on this

Thanks in advance

If you want a mower that is going to last many years I would look into the mzt instead of the mz. The mzt has a commercial engine and commercial zt3400 hydros as compared to the zt3100 hydros and residential engine offered on the mz. It will cost between $5000 and $5500, but will be a better fit for your needs. If you are going to be using your mower to pull a wagon load of downed trees you will need the extra torque. There are other mowers out there with better engine options between 4k and 5k. I suggest looking at every brand you have available in your area and compare what options you get for the price range you want to pay. All of the brands you mentioned make quality mowers, but most will cost more than 4k. If you are looking at hustler then the fastrack will be the model that falls within your requirement of zt3100 hydros. It will run in 5k range. The kommander z121 is kubota's model. The zthd is gravely's mower, it will run the 5k range. The jd ztr line is pricey as well. Of the brands you mentioned husqvarna gives you the most mower for the money. There are other brands out there that offer great mowers at a better price range than most of the brands you mentioned, such as snapper pro, and big dog.

Second on upgrading to the MZT52 but I don't think any zero turn is rated to haul what you listed, just not what they were designed for, a tractor would probably suit your needs better.

A ztr mower with commercial hydros have enough torque to pull anywhere from 700 to 1000 lb of extra weight. That should be able to pull just about anything a lawn tractor will pull.
