Tecumseh10 Hp LMT carburetor to rich.

Today I started my Sear LT 10 36 with the Tecumseh engine ( after rebuild)
and it seems to be running to "rich".
Small amount of black smoke and gas seeping from the intake gasket.
I set the idle screw out one 1/4 turns - Main mixture out one 1/2.
Which way to lean it out? (Waiting for the battery to charge. )

Lean is in, rich is out. Always set the high speed (main) needle first.
