Syntheic oil

Does everyone think it's a good idea to use top of the line oil as well as high octane gas for your mower. Thanks

Oil: The best thing you can do for any engine is to change the oil regularly. Nearly all modern oils (both organic and synthetic) contain detergents that become less effective over time. Don't be fooled into thinking a synthetic oil can "last longer" or you can go longer between changes just because the oil is synthetic. Bottom line? Doesn't matter if you used organic or synthetic, just change it per the manufacturers recommend interval.

Fuel: If your mower runs fine on regular unleaded, and the manufacturer recommends it, then use it. No reason to switch to a high octane fuel if there's no issue with knocking or premature ignition in the engine. Now with that said, *some* higher octane fuels do contain less ethanol. This is a good thing for small engines. Higher concentrations of ethanol can cause the fuel to break down and debris can form inside the fuel system, usually in the tiny bits of the carburetor. When this happens, the engine can surge or only run smoothly when choked. This can be avoided by treating the fuel with stabilizer to lengthen the life of the fuel. A small bottle of stabilizer can prevent costly carburetor rebuilds or replacements in the long run.

Mix some Marvel Mystery Oil with you gas, it acts as a stabilizer and it lubricates the top end of the engine some. It will also help keep carbon from building up which will help your engine run better.

2 ounces to every 5 gallons is the recommended dosage.

I run it in my truck, my wifes car and all of my small engines.

I believe the general line of thought on this forum in the last year has pretty much been synthetic is better for air cooled lawn engines. It seems the belief is that synthetic, multi viscosity, and HDEO is the way to go. When it starts to get real hot all day long into the evening everyday and springtime playtime is over alot more folks seem to be on the internet forums. Ask again then, there will be lots of discussion, or just cussin, or both.

as i understand it the epa has taken a lot of zddp (zinc) out of motor oil. while this wont affect any engine with roller cam bearings i believe it will affect all other engines,for this reason i run either synthetic or diesel grade 10-30. i prefer diesel grade 10-30 because i change it so often. just my opinion
