Hello!

I'm a brand new member and I have a few questions regarding a Swisher (a T1360 I beleive, but most of the paint and such has been worn off) pull behind mower that my father and I inherited, as well as a healthy chunk of land to mow. Last week we were mowing and after making three passes, the engine, in my dad's words "threw a rod." We've decided to replace the engine completely due to its age and past abuse, but the model of engine (Briggs 287707-1288-e1) is no longer made. I've asked several local stores and can't seem to get a straight answer on what the equivalent of that engine is now. The only model that has been recommended more than once is the Briggs 31c707-3026-g5. It is higher horsepower, but the shaft size and locations math up, but I can't find anymore information on either model. Has anyone swapped similar engines before or know of any references to find "equivalent" engines? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ben

Your 287707-1288-e1 converts to a 31a607-0026-g5 which supercedes to a 31a607-3026-g5 cost $1100. the 31c707-3026-g5 is $560. May need to do a few mods like use old exhaust and stuff like that but should be able to use the cheaper engine for your use.

Yeah, the block is pretty much the same one, so mounting isn't a problem, length and diameter of the crank is the main worry.
as well as he said exhaust, the charging system should swap. Go to some of the small engine warehouses and check prices there too, I have had good luck with them.

Thanks for the quick response! That is great to know not only about being able to use the cheaper of the two engines, but knowing that we may have to swap out some parts. I was quoted the same price for locally the 31a607-0026-g5 and about had a stroke. I contacted Briggs and they directed me to a warehouse/wholesaler out of my area and the customer service rep directed me to the 31c707-3026-g5 after giving her my model number, which at 560, was far easier to stomach.

Thanks again! Feeling way better about ordering now! Hopefully I can report back with good news!

Cheers
