One site I read calls the added compound for winter blend " oxygenates " . Isn't that somewhat vague .
Another site I researched says " Butane " is added for winter blend gasoline . The details of the amount added must be strictly regulated because that information seems to be hush hush.
I was never the sharpest pencil in the box when it comes to math so lets take a look at this .
Wholesale propane spot price FOB in Mont Belvieu, TX this week is around 0.94 cents / gallon so I assume Butane is similar or possibly just a little higher because of slightly higher BTU content.
So recently gas jumped by leaps and bounds at the pump and the X-perts claim it will drop with the winter blends just around the corner because it's cheaper to produce . Well DUH, drop the BTUs by adding Butane or Propane so your fuel economy drops from say 22 to 18 and lower the price at the pump 2 cents just to make us feel good . Feel good? I think I'm gonna puke .
And also I have always thought monopolies were illegal in the U.S. Maybe I was misinformed in school when we studied that sort of thing . Well maybe not and we sure didn't know all the pump prices could be changed in a region in a nano second with the click of a mouse .
