I got this Robin EX27 with electric start. It didn't have a key switch, which I have ordered, or the cutoff switch on the engine. I want to make sure I wire it up correctly. There are two orange wires that appear to be coming from the ignition coil. I'm guessing that one of the wires is supposed to go to the kill switch on the engine, with the other end connected to the black ground wire in the picture. I think the other orange wire is supposed to connect to the low oil sensor, which this engine does not appear to have so it would not be used, or in this case I plan to connect it to a secondary kill switch. Can anyone tell me if this is correct?

So I've realized that the black wire (in the picture with the used blue wire connector) is attached to the magneto/coil so that's the wire for my kill switch. The two orange wires are going behind the flywheel so I'm guessing that has something to do with the charge coil? If so, is that what is recharging my battery? What do these orange wires (together in the bottom of the picture) connect to? Help please.

Thanks Blaz, I already had the owner's, service and parts manual for the EX27. My problem is that the service and parts manuals shows different configurations and since the engine I got was missing some parts, I'm not exactly sure what I need. I contacted the Subaru service online and, well, let's just say I've received A LOT more help from you guys on this forum.

Based on the engine code I know that my engine has a 200W charging coil. When I gave the guy at Subaru my engine code he responded, "Here is what you have. KWY 1" ELEC ST-200 W Made for ASW." I'm not trying to knock the guy, he tried to help, but most of his responses where just like that and I have no idea what he was talking about 85% of the time and I hated to keep going back and forth with the guy.

The guy at Subaru said I would need a "Current Limiter", part number 224-76101-21, but the diagram he sent shows this to be a 6 wire setup, two wires going to the charging coil, one to ground, one back to the positive terminal, one wire, a yellow wire, that appears to go nowhere, and is indicated as "Free" and the sixth wire that connects to the key switch on the "L" terminal. I'm not running light through my key switch so I don't think I would need this wire, or the yellow "Free" wire for that matter.

So on page 52 of the SERVICE manual it shows that for my engine, without the oil sensor, I need a 4 wire "Diode Rectifier". This setup makes more sense, two wires to the chargine coil, one to ground and one return wire to the positive terminal. Is this the same thing as a "Current Limiter"?

The PARTS manual, however, is another story entirely. According to page 38, it looks like I need the 200 watt 4 wire "Regulator Rectifier", part number 277-71901-01, is that the same thing as the "Diode Rectifier" mentioned in the service manual and/or the "Current Limiter" mentioned by the Subaru guy? BUT THEN...on page 40 of the PARTS manual it shows item 230 is a "Diode Rectifier CP" BUT IT'S ONLY 3 WIRES! It was 4 wires in the Service Manual! I'm going crazy here! The part number for the Diode Rectifier is 277-71401-01.

So.....are the "Current Limiter", "Diode Rectifier" and "Diode Rectifier CP" and "Regulator Rectifier all the same thing? Which one do I need?

I am using this engine on a homemade trike. The 12V battery will, on occasion, be running some led lights, a low power consumption battery and a few other low power accessories. All of the accessories are powered through a fuse panel connected from the battery.

I just need this electric start engine to put power back to the battery to keep it charged. Can someone PLEASE, PLEASE tell me what I need for this 9hp Subaru EX270DS5020?

Do I need:
Regulator Rectifier, 4 wire, part number 277-71901-01
Current Limiter, 6 wire, part number 224-76101-21
Diode Rectifier CP, 3 wire (according to parts manual) or 4 wire (accoring to service manual), part number 277-71401-01

I love Robin engines but these manuals have me pulling my hair out!!
