I need to replace the hydro fan and there doesn't seem to be any room to get to it.
If the battery tray was removable it would be easy to get to, but the tray doesn't seem to be removable.
Does the trans axle have to be removed to replace the fan? or is there another way to get to it?
I've read the repair manual and the only place it shows removing the fan is in the section after removing the transaxle.
is there a way to do it with out dropping the transaxle?

Not sure about that model but most likely you'll need to drop the hydro low enough to work the fan off, I know on mine and most I've see there is barely enough room to work the belt on

Boy it been a long time since I did one but if I remember correctly all you got to do is remove the battery and its box at access the fan area.

Sadly the battery box is not removable..Gonna see if i can maybe loosen the transaxle a bit and drop it down as sugested.

Yes, I had to do the same. I just went ahead and dropped the transmission and changed the oil. The oil was
bad and since the change it has more power.
